Mask Recycling:
an innovative and responsible process
The plastic composition of masks makes this waste a major issue in the fight against pollution. The challenge of our solution for the management of single-use masks? To offer an innovative solution for recycling plastic masks. Our main objective is to massively reduce the number of masks thrown away in the streets and in nature.
Keenat is building its own material recovery or, in other words, single-use mask recycling process. Part of the mask processing unit is located in Gironde, near the company's headquarters.

A recycling eco-designed
Mask recycling is in line with eco-design and the economy of functionality: the aim is to control the product's end-of-life so that this new resource does not in turn become potential waste.
How Does it work?
Thanks to the plastic contained in the masks, we are able to transform the masks into plastic sheets in order to make awareness panels.
Concretely, we receive the boxes filled with masks, unpacked, which are stored in our workshop for 30 days. The masks are then crushed into flakes, along with the elastic band and the metal bar. A magnetic module is used to separate the scrap metal shavings. The elastics are recycled along with the crushed polypropylene to optimize the process and increase the mask's recyclability. The scrap metal is recycled via a specific metal channel.
